About This Job

Job Type

Full-Time Permanent

Description

We are seeking a versatile, driven, and empathetic Legal Associate to join our growing team. This role is designed for a "legal athlete"—someone who enjoys the variety of a general practice and is comfortable pivoting between different areas of the law to meet our clients' diverse needs.

The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in Criminal, Family, and Civil litigation and is looking to sharpen their advocacy and advisory skills in a supportive, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
Criminal Law: Handle mentions, mitigation pleas, and assist in trial preparation for various offenses. Conduct legal research and draft representations to the Prosecution.

Family Law: Manage matrimonial proceedings including contested/uncontested divorces, PPO applications, and matters involving custody, care, and control.

Civil Litigation: Draft pleadings, affidavits, and interlocutory applications. Represent clients in mediation and assist in high-stakes civil disputes from commencement to enforcement.

Client Management: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing clear legal advice while managing expectations with professional empathy.

Drafting & Advocacy: Prepare comprehensive legal opinions, contracts, and court documents. Appear before the Courts for chamber matters and mentions.

Requirements
Experience: At least 1 year of Post-Qualified Experience (PQE) in a relevant legal environment.

Versatility: A demonstrated interest or background in handling a mix of Criminal, Family, and Civil files.

Communication: Exceptional written and oral advocacy skills. You should be able to explain complex legal jargon in plain English to clients.

Resilience: The ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple deadlines across different practice areas.

Integrity: A high standard of professional ethics and a genuine commitment to achieving the best outcomes for clients.

Why Join Us?
Diverse Caseload: You won't be pigeonholed. You will gain exposure to a wide breadth of legal issues that most specialized firms cannot offer.

Mentorship: Work directly with senior partners who are invested in your professional growth and courtroom confidence.

Growth Path: Clear opportunities for career progression as the firm expands.

Work-Life Integration: We value results over "face time" and promote a collaborative, non-hierarchical office culture.

How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit the following:

Updated CV highlighting your experience in the three core practice areas.

Cover Letter briefly explaining why you enjoy being a generalist.

Expected Salary and availability.

If you are interested, please send in your CV to jeneen@jaylawcorp.com.
